The past few issues of Sound Sanctuary have discussed sacred geometry within the context of healing with singing bowls. Certain geometric forms can awaken aspects of higher consciousness and open the heart in a fluid, ever evolving manner. Although sacred geometry is a series of mathematical correlations, it is possible to experience its energy without any knowledge of mathematics. One pattern I use frequently in sound healing sessions is the Golden Mean Spiral. It is a pattern that is full of intimacy, movement, and an outpouring of love energy.

In an article about Sacred Geometry Ronald L Holt states ”the Golden Mean Spiral is a doorway that weaves the ethereal and material dimensions together. In another context I would say that God left us one door of eternal mystery and exploration the Golden Mean Spiral or the door of love…. the Golden Mean Spiral is an expression of the basic energy of creation that we call love.”

Imagine for a moment an infinitely tiny point. A point so small that it disappears into the void. Imagine that point as being the Great Mystery. From that point unfolds a never ending pattern of continuous curves, spiraling and expanding into an equally infinite vastness. Each revolution a metaphor for the expansion of consciousness. As you create beautiful patterns of spirals you may wish to start at the heart and expand outwards striking bowls in larger and larger clockwise spheres around the body (masculine energy) … Equally, you may wish to bring that energy back to the still point of the Great Mystery by creating inward spirals, (feminine energy). Each direction has it’s own energy as does intermingling them. Experiment with creating large, small, clockwise and counter clockwise spirals, and note the attributes of each.

Q.How do you know which bowl to play on a client?

A.The answer is complex. It takes time and practice to know the properties of each of your bowls and trust your intuition in helping you select the correct bowls for a particular client. All my bowls are harmonically tuned to one another and each of their different tones contribute to grounding, energizing etc. It is a combination of observation, intuition and the knowledge of what certain patterns (see sacred geometry) and tones do both separately and together. Additionally, how to play a bowl for a certain effect (ie to awaken, to energize, to soothe, to lift up, to ground, etc.) is as important as which bowl is being played. The size of the bowl and its fundamental pitch are also important considerations as well. So there is not an easy answer to this question because it is a combination of many factors that will influence your choice of bowls and their placement. Practice...
