It is always at hand." --Neale Donald Walsh More on OM In a wonderful book by Nada Brama entitled The World of Sound, I came across a delightful passage that offered an interesting description of "OM" and "Amen". Brama says that in Sanskrit, which is the foundational language for mantras, the letter "O" used in the eastern mantra "OM, represents the planet of Venus (love, communion, heart and oneness). The letter "A" from the western mantra, AMEN, represents the planets of Jupiter and Mercury (success, activity, extroversion, mone, thinking and business). Further, this energy is eternal, changing and morphing from one shape or form to another. Each “energy shape’ has its own particular pattern of frequencies, or vibrations. When one form experiences a matching frequency in the form of a musical note, the form will begin to vibrate in sympathy with the note in sympathetic resonance. A strong enough vibration can even cause a form to restructure itself, as has been noted with cancer cells, crystal glasses, etc. With the Himalayan bowls, every note creates sympathetic resonance with every other note creating harmonic overtones that commence the healing process. We do this with one another all the time in a different ways during our everyday lives. When our friend is depressed we “sympathize” (often accompanied by little sounds) and this can be very soothing. I recently met a woman who had an autistic child. Instead of trying to get the child to integrate into the “normal” world, this woman spent several years meeting the child at his level. She mimicked his sounds and motions, moans, grunts and mumblings. After 3 years of “sympathizing” the child suddenly shifted into another frequency and went on to a fulfilling life that had no residue of his previous condition. In improvisation (musical or performing) one of the basic rules is to agree with (or sympathize) the action and add to it moving it forward. If one counters the move or note, than the energy of the action is deflated or blocked and the creative process doesn’t move forward.
