What We Resist Persists On a daily basis, I work with people who wish to distance themselves from their pain. Understandable. They try to keep it at bay in ways that never work. They deny, detest and complain about their pain but live with it while numbing a part of themselves to it. Some people ‘work very hard’ at relaxing or disappearing their pain. Often this is done for so long that the pain seems to become part of their very fabric. The paradox is that for healing to occur, a resonance needs to be established with the pain, before it can be resolved. For resonance to occur, there needs to be an owning of, a taking in and an acceptance of the pain. How can we truly let go of something if we don’t accept it as fully ours? (Living with pain we don’t accept doesn’t count as owning it ). Many examples in our daily lives show us that to match frequencies is a prerequisite to releasing pain, anger and illness. For those who have ever suffered a hangover- remember the "hair of the dog that bit you?". One ingests a small amount of the substance that caused the hangover to provide relief. In Homeopathy, one takes in a diluted amount of the very substance that they are protecting themselves from... to establish immunity. Sound is an extremely effective way of creating resonance with physical, emotional or spiritual pain. Since we are 70% water, and water is an excellent transmitter of information, we can create sympathetic resonance with our pain and then via our intention, release it. How do we do this? There are several methods. Anyone can practice the following pain releasing exercise: Start with something small. Perhaps an external noise that is annoying. Begin to work with vowels, consonants, pitch, tone and volume to make the sound of the object that is annoying to you. Voice the sound repeatedly until it resonates throughout your entire body. The process will inevitably bring up your inner critic but carry on nevertheless, allowing yourself to feel silly until the sound totally envelops you. Then intentionally release it. Sound Healing Tip As you strike and sing you bowl on each chakra, imagine the color of the chakra (or ask your client to). Light is a higher frequency of sound so adding the element of color to your treatments will enhance them. Moving from root chakra to the crown chakra the colors are Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo and Violet. You can also place pieces of appropriately colored cloth on each chakra and place the bowls on that. When you have worked your way up the body, return to the Heart Chakra ( green) and finally be silent to feel the energy throughout your entire body.
