The Greatest Gift During the holiday season don't we feel a frenetic energy focused on gift giving and holiday preparations? Even though we and most of those we know have more than they need, feelings of obligation, responsibility and stress are intermingled with excitement and joy. But consider another form of giving; one that can extend throughout all of life with practice and intention. That is the gift of Compassion. The act of creating a space for someone, including the self to be wholly who they are. In this space there is no shaming, blaming, guilt tripping, judgment or criticism. There are no suggestions or advice giving either. There is only total presencing to that person in a manner that encourages them to reveal themselves because you have created a sacredly safe space. Imagine how our children, partner and friends would feel in such a space. But what about 'triggers' that catapult us into reactionary outbursts?( such as during holiday time with family, or an argument with a partner) This would be the time to create such a space for ourselves. We are, after all, human. Being human means learning by repetition and practicing. Self- Compassion is the ability to reach inside ourselves and make the space for where we are, exactly as we are, idiosyncranies, outbursts and all. It is a noticing, a witnessing. After that comes the time to make choices (or amends if that is needed), maybe even take some space. The ability to be OK with self and to let others be OK with out all the layers of expectation, disappointment etc we often put on things, is enormously healing. Eventually, we might all reach a point where it is second nature to be in the state of compassion all the time. For most of us we need helpers to bring us back to that neutral place as a foundation for intentional next steps. The Sacred Sound instruments guide us back to that place within our selves. The gift is twofold.. One is being there oneself.. The other is the healing it engenders for others. Blessed Holidays to All. Tools for Wholeness
